Scope
  • Total reinforced concrete volume poured was 37,000 cubic metres
  • Construction of the plant civil works including the use of epoxy coated rebars and pouzollanic concrete.
  • Construction of over 450 foundations of various sizes including:
    • Several deep foundations that required extensive sheet piling and dewatering.
    • Construction of foundations involving single pours up to 1300 cu.m.
    • Equipment foundations and elevated structures for reactors and compressors of 1100 cu.m. at 14 m height with a 1.80 m slab thickness.
    • All foundations were coal tar epoxy coated having a thickness of 1000 microns and protected with fiber board.
  • Construction of 6 culverts and 1 bridge using precast concrete slabs.
  • Construction of 2500 lm of concrete sleepers supporting large bore carbon steel pipework.
  • Construction of various type of reinforced concrete retaining walls.
  • Construction of retaining ponds of 2 x 1000 sq.m. with a capacity of 700 cu.m. each.
  • Construction of underground API concrete tanks separators.
  • Construction of all plant internal roads.

Civil Works in existing MTBE I Plant:
This work represented a substantial 25% of the total civil works and was performed under tight security and safety measures within the operations and production area of the existing MTBE I plant which was producing at the limit of its capacity and included:
  • Deep excavations involving sheet piling and dewatering that necessitated relocation of existing underground live cables and utilities.
  • Construction of large foundations.
  • Installation of concrete and carbon steel pipe work.

Building Works:
Construction of 6 buildings having a total of 3,500 sq.m. including fast track construction of a technical building totaling 1100 sq.m. and the following buildings:
  • Maintenance Workshop
  • Laboratory
  • Satellite Control House
  • 3 Sub-Stations
